The design approach for SCG Prepack, which AEI Solution had the opportunity to be involved in at every stage—from designing and planning the warehouse to constructing the building and systems—focused on effectively managing all stages of the production line. The objective was to provide the best solutions to maximize storage capacity within the existing warehouse space while accommodating the client’s specific pallet types, such as molds, raw materials, and Work In Progress (WIP). Additionally, it was essential to integrate the existing ERP system to work seamlessly with the crane systems, AGV operations, and AEI Solution’s WMS (Warehouse Management System), aiming to develop the highest quality Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS).

Therefore, the planning of this operational process required increased attention to detail. It was not just about adhering to engineering principles, construction standards, or safety regulations, but also about designing and integrating the AGV system into the workflow. The goal was to ensure that the AGV system would work seamlessly and efficiently, maximizing its benefits and effectiveness in the process.

Originally, the warehouse was a high-rise building used to consolidate products through various processes such as Lamination (packaging creation), Forming (molding), and Printing. This necessitated the storage of molds, raw materials, and Work In Progress (WIP) within the limited warehouse space, using conventional manual selective racks. The dense and disorganized storage led to frequent errors in locating items, such as “items not found, incomplete orders, or incorrect items picked.” This resulted in redundant workflow steps, increased labor costs, equipment expenses, material handling, and production delays.

AEI Solution proposed removing the existing storage racks to redesign the building’s layout and prepare for the full installation of an ASRS Solution. This includes implementing an SRM Double Deep Crane System to expand storage capacity to a depth of 2 pallets with a height of 20 meters, accommodating the number of items per SKU. The solution also features a front material handling system using rail-guided vehicles (RGV) and an additional RGV for storing WIP and molds, which streamlines product integration into the production line and distribution to the crane. Additionally, AGV-FMR vehicles will handle the transportation of goods, raw materials, and molds between production lines, integrating all systems via PDA in conjunction with WMS and MES systems. This comprehensive approach results in a highly effective and efficient ASRS system, enhancing product receiving accuracy through barcode scanning, weighing, and dimension measurement, and fully addressing all previous warehouse management issues.

Change is always good when it happens, but it doesn’t mean it applies to everything. Some
things have inherent value on their own and shouldn’t be altered. However, this doesn’t mean
that nothing should be done at all.”

For this reason, AEI Solution designed custom pallets tailored to fit the various shapes and sizes of products, raw materials, and molds, such as roll plastics, large sheet plastics, and various packaging molds. The design team created these specialized pallets to perfectly match the product shapes, while also supporting handling with AGV-FMR and cranes.

We also planned to integrate the entire ASRS solution we designed with the client’s existing ERP system, ensuring seamless compatibility with the WMS developed by AEI Solution. This approach aims to elevate the warehouse storage standards to Smart Warehouse 4.0, achieving the highest level of creativity and efficiency. It addresses all the client’s constraints and specific requirements comprehensively.

Above all, we did not forget to consider sustainable safety throughout the construction, installation, and actual use, adhering to international standards. This supports the strategy and vision of the executives, who are committed to becoming the leading provider of flexible products in the country. The goal is to develop products that meet the needs of all industry sectors with the best solutions, extending to international and global markets.
